College Board AP Ledger Course Descriptions

"To provide visibility into the type of laboratory experience provided within each authorized AP course, the ledger of AP courses released to higher education and the public will contain a designation describing the mode of laboratory experience provided. (See below.) Note: some colleges and universities have indicated that they will only grant credit for AP science courses that include a hands-on lab.

Notification to colleges and universities
A ledger of all authorized AP courses will be made available to colleges and universities in November 2007. To provide visibility into the type of laboratory experience provided within each authorized AP course, the ledger will identify authorized AP Biology, Chemistry, and Physics courses within the following six categories:
  • face-to-face instruction with hands-on lab;
  • face-to-face instruction with virtual lab;
  • face-to-face instruction with a combination of hands-on and virtual lab;
  • online instruction* with hands-on lab;
  • online instruction with virtual lab;
  • online instruction with a combination of hands-on and virtual lab.

* All authorized AP courses (not just Biology, Chemistry, and Physics courses) that are delivered via an online medium will be identified as such in the ledger made available to colleges and universities."
